Draft FY2017-FY2021 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Available
MassDOT announces the release of the draft State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for Federal Fiscal Years (FFY) 2017-2021 and welcomes public comment until August 9, 2016.
The STIP is a five-year investment program that prioritizes federal and non-federal funds for improvements to our roadways, bridges, transit systems, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities throughout the Commonwealth. MassDOT and our regional Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) partners collaborated to develop the draft STIP. The STIP reflects the regional transportation priorities found in the thirteen regional Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs) developed through metropolitan planning processes.
Each of the MPOs referenced their respective Public Participation Plans to facilitate and guide participation at the regional level ensuring an inclusive public process. During the development of the thirteen regional TIPs, MPOs held numerous public meetings across the Commonwealth to solicit comments from members of the public, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Recommendations concerning proposed transportation investments were in part prioritized by utilizing regionally adopted Transportation Evaluation Criteria to score projects. After evaluation of potential projects, the MPOs voted on the investments to prioritize in their respective TIP.
The draft STIP is available for review. Comments on the draft STIP can be mailed to STIP Coordinator, MassDOT, Office of Transportation Planning, 10 Park Plaza Room 4150, Boston MA 02116, by fax to 857-368-0639, by e-mail to planning@dot.state.ma.us or using the online comment tool.
