Freight Planning

The primary mission of freight planning is to improve intermodal transportation system connectivity and performance.  These improvements increase opportunities to move freight and interregional passengers at lower cost and with fewer impediments.  It is increasingly important for the CMMPO, regional decision makers, and stakeholders to understand the challenges and needs concerning freight mobility when formulating regional transportation policy.  In support of this goal, CMRPC staff has forged relationships with various modal providers in the railroad, trucking, and intermodal industries.  Continued review and evaluation of strategies to improve system performance are conducted in the interest of the public at large by attempting to preserve and foster a balance of intermodal costs and resultant efficiencies with the general impacts of proposals.
