West Boylston Master Plan

The Town of West Boylston, with assistance from the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission, is updating the Town’s master plan. This process is being led by the Town-Wide Planning Committee. This plan will lay out a vision for the community’s future over the next twenty years and provide a roadmap to get there. It reflects a shared vision of where the community intends to be in the coming decades, helping to shape local policies, inform decisions, and guide public and private investments.

What is a Master Plan?

A Master Plan is a comprehensive community plan that explores many of the elements that shape a community, including Land Use, Housing, Recreation, Cultural Resources, Transportation, Business, and Municipal Services. This document will be created through an inclusive planning process, where residents and stakeholders come together to brainstorm ideas, deliberate over priorities, dream about possibilities, and create a unified strategy for the community’s development.

West Boylston’s last master plan, completed in 2005, has provided valuable guidance. However, much has changed since then, ranging from population growth and economic shifts to environmental concerns and technological advancements. A new master plan will help ensure that the town is equipped to navigate and capitalize on the opportunities and challenges of the next 20 years, creating a more resilient, vibrant, and sustainable community.

How does a Master Plan help West Boylston?

A Master Plan helps a community

  • Manage growth and change
  • Provide for orderly and predictable development
  • Protect environmental resources
  • Set priorities for developing and maintaining infrastructure and public facilities
  • Strengthen local identity
  • Create a framework for future policy decisions
  • Promote open, democratic planning
  • Provide guidance to landowners, developers, and permitting authorities
