The Town of Barre is working to create the Town’s first Master Plan. This plan will lay out a vision for Barre’s future over the next ten years and provide a roadmap for achieving community goals. In 2023, Phase 1 of the Barre Master Plan was finalized and drafted. Currently, Phase 2 is being formed and drafted.
Final Draft Master Plan – Public Comment Period
The Master Plan Steering Committee has prepared draft chapters for public comment. We need your input and feedback on the draft plan! The public comment form will close on April 13, 2026. Comments will be discussed at the April 16th Master Plan Steering Committee Meeting.

What is a Master Plan?
A Master Plan is a comprehensive community plan that explores important topics such as land use, natural resources, economic development, housing, transportation, and other themes. Through the planning process, Barre will assess its challenges and opportunities by collecting research and input from the community. Once written, the Master Plan will lay out a vision for Barre’s future and strategies to achieve it. Master Plans require periodic updates. Issues, challenges, and resident preferences can change a lot in 10-20 years, which is the typical horizon of a Master Plan.
