Transportation justice encompasses the elimination of disparities in mobility and interconnected systems, aiming for equal access to transportation for all individuals to enhance their quality of life affordably, reliably, safely, and seamlessly. These disparities are often perpetuated by the actions and inactions of institutions over time. Identifying equitable investments in transportation serves as an important tool to address these inequities and alter outcomes. Additionally, Transportation Justice endeavors to diminish existing barriers, enhance access to various opportunities and destinations, and foster thriving communities.
Under the CMRPC’s transportation division, the Transportation Justice initiative serves as the overarching framework for Title VI activities, environmental justice, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, language assistance, and public participation. Furthermore, the initiative employs regionally relevant methodologies to assess geographic equity, benefits, and any disparate or disproportionate burdens associated with transportation plans, projects, and activities in the region.
